Press Statement
The recent killing of a citizen by a police officer Roosevelt Demann in Red Light has claimed the attention of the Citizens Bureau for Development and productivity (CBDP) given the responsibility of police officers under the rule of law is to protect the well-being of every citizen in Liberia and to ensure the due process of law.
Contrary to protecting the citizens some members of the Liberia National Police willfully, intentionally have decided to inflict harm and murdered the very citizens they should be protecting. This development which is not the first occurrence is embarrassing and troubling to our citizens and the police authority. And we do believe it is unhealthy, counter productive and not in the best interest of the pro-poor agenda instituted by this government.
We at the Citizens Bureau Liberia want to call on the government to go beyond not only reprimanding the officer concern but to seek the welfare of the families of the victim who are depended upon him for survival and livelihood.
