Ahead of the much publicized June 7 protest our organization Citizens Bureau for Development and Productivity in Liberia is concerned about the sustained peaceful coexistence amongst Liberian citizens despite our political, religious and other differences.
Against this backdrop, the CITIZENS' BUREAU is calling on all parties to accept responsibilities in the manners and ways their roles contribute to the outcome should things go negative albeit we do not hope so.
By the above statement, we are demonstrating our quest as citizens of this country that the parties to include the protest organizers and relevant government institutions to commit to a peaceful and orderly fashion void of violence. Equally important, the June 7 protesters must consider the risk factor in the planning and design so as to abort intruders bent on creating havoc in the name of organizers.
At this moment, we are cautioning the Ministry of Justice/Liberia National Police to be engaged with the protest organizers to allow for effective deployment actions. All these efforts are met to ensure citizens rights to peacefully assemble and petition their elected officials as enshrined in the 1986 Liberia constitution is adhere to.
The people got the right to freedom of assembly under our laws once their safety and happiness so required. Under the 1986 constitution, the government must provide the atmosphere conducive enough to ensure protection of the citizens in carrying out their constitutional rights with respect to the means provided under the organic law of the land for the expression of grievances.
Therefore, it is important that the government act accordingly as opposed to any attempt to render protest illegal.
