We do extend profound thanks and appreciations to all Liberians for the exercised of our democratic franchise as enshrine in the 1986 Liberian constitution expressed in Article 1 as quoted below:
“All power is inherent in the people. All free governments are instituted by their authority and for their benefit and they have the right to alter and reform the same when their happiness and safety so required. In order to ensure democratic government which responds to the wishes of the governed, the people shall have the right, at such period, and in such manner as provided for under the constitution, to cause their public servants to leave office and to fill vacancies by regular elections and appointment.”
Having said so, the Citizens Bureau of Liberia congratulates the President and Vice-president elect of the Republic of Liberia following the December 26, 2017 run-off presidential elections in honor of Ambassador, Senator George Manneh Weah and Senator Jewel Howard Taylor respectively for their resounding victory, thus obtaining 61.5 percent of the total number of votes cast, and not forgetting the members of the newly elected parliament in the October 10, 2017 polls.
We also want to thank all those who aspired for elected offices doing these periods but conceded defeat as their courage to concede having tested the democratic process contribute in defining our values as a people of one nation and one destiny.
We also extend thanks and deepest gratitude to the international community who stood by us the people of Liberia for their tireless efforts in ensuring the successes we experienced going through the ballot box.
More to that we want to urge our elected officials and all peace loving Liberians to keep doing the right things by following the rule of law because as much as we remain doing so it will be fine for Liberia and all of us. In regards to the above, we would like to state that continuity of government should be about doing the right things while avoiding those negative vices of previous governments which were not helpful to the people of Liberia in the administration of public goods and services.
To ensure appropriate continuity of government asking the question what did the government of President(s) Samuel K. Doe, Charles G. Taylor and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf amongst others, did right and did wrong, by continuing with the right such as instituting the merit system in government and to undo the wrongs in relations to tribalism, inequality and lack of political will to prosecute corrupt government officials, will help achieve goals of the incoming government of His Excellency President elect, Senator George M. Weah.
That said we hail President elect Ambassador, Senator George Weah for his pronouncement against would be corrupt officials in support of achieving his government pro-poor policies. As for the general public the elections are over and people should stop throwing invectives at each other using social, electronic or print media. It is about time to put aside our political differences and work to help the fast approaching incoming government to succeed on the government promised of a pro-poor deliverable (s).
Long live His Excellency, Ambassador, Senator and president elect George M. Weah
Long live the Peace loving people of Liberia
