Press Statement
November 1, 2017
We would like to state that our elections’ processes have been characterized with irregularities for which we are appealing to the general public for understanding so that we can go forward with the thought of mind that the peace we enjoy today is immeasurable in terms of money value, to consider all other odds and move forward with the electoral process for the pending November 7, 2017 runoff elections.
Given our experienced, we could understand the challenges associated with the conduct of elections in terms of movement of election materials, especially during the rainy season at which time motor road becomes deplorable resulting to people traveling with ballot boxes on foot, inadequacy of representation of political parties presence at polling places across the country, leaving the process with the National Elections Commission along is not so well, amongst others.
That said we are thankful in as much aggrieved political parties, have come up with their grievances indicating qualms relative to the October 10, 2017 elections held across the country. We are also thankful that our noble citizens running in the race has chosen to voice their grievances through the rule of law, for which we are sure of a fruitful and peaceful result about the qualm raised.
In this light, we do discourage statements which have the propensity to develop violence amongst the peace loving people of Liberia. Given the aforementioned, we do call upon those making threatening statements through the print, electronic and social media to desist; and desist now!
We are aware that only one person can be elected as president, another as vice-president both running on the same ticket.
We are getting there, what is true and cannot be ignored tension is part of the challenges in all electoral processes across the world, so it is ours; though if not careful, could turn disastrous when harsh expressions equated to beaten war drum takes preeminent over reconciliation and peace building messages from political actors or interest group.
A successful transition will save Liberia and its people. Against this backdrop we deem it necessary to continuously urge our political leaders or actors to dialogue, aiming at ensuring peace and reconciliation. On the other hand we look to the Supreme Court to demonstrate fairness when the majority of people should have confidence and faith in the court’s ability in ensuring their happiness and safety.
Now therefore, we are calling for the expeditious handling of complaints made by three political parties, namely, the Liberty party, Alternative National Congress and the All Liberian Party to the National Elections commission and the Supreme Court of Liberia as we draw closer to the November 7, 2017 run-off presidential elections.
Thanks,
John Kamma
