In the wake of Liberia gearing to improve her status within the comity of nations, from the war era to now fragile peace means, we should allow for the war and economic crimes court to be established for lasting peace which promote a culture of sanity, as those with whom we associate and do business we have to take care so that we are not seen or perceived not to be serious by them.
In the view of making the world to know that we have graduated from the dark days of the civil war, when people saw their families or relatives being butchered, and themselves being raped or tortured, with perpetrators of these acts of very serious crimes and untold sufferings moving about freely in luxury and comfort, when victims remain hurt through their life's time, the only medicine they could have and feel a bit pleasure will be justice and reparations.
The worthless experienced of our civil war brought a set back to our developmental agenda, as Liberia was seen as a hostile country; to change that, people who engaged in such heartless and wrongful doings should be brought to account, to serve as a deterrent so as to discourage the next generation from engaging in such horrible venture.
Today, many Liberians are celebrating that very significant nations of the world are taken actions in apprehending people associated with the Liberian civil war that are believed to have played leading roles in the killings and untold sufferings being experienced during such period. More so, that the United States foreign committee of the US congress have passed a joint resolution as a result of Liberians calling for the establishment of an extra ordinary criminal tribunal and the full implementations of the TRC’s recommendations, demonstrate what Liberians are thinking moving forward from fragile peace to lasting peace.
That said, we want to encourage the president H.E. Dr. George M. Weah, about his called made in 2004 for the establishment of war crimes court, now as President of Liberia, to pursue this noble agenda to advance the best interest of the people of Liberia above individual and to build trust with very significant nations of the world.
As Founder and Executive Director of the Citizens Bureau for Development and Productivity (CBDP) in Liberia, being involved with the implementation of Community Justice in conjunction with the Accountability Lab, our organization #CitizensBureau have no option but to push for the establishment of war and economic crimes court for genuine reconciliation of the Liberian people, so that we have the experience moving from fragile peace to lasting peace and to regain our status with in the comity of nations.
